Congratulations to Brian Breland for Winning the 2014 Mobile Area Council of Engineers Award for Electrical Engineer of the Year

Mar 1, 2014

Congratulations to Brian Breland who was awarded the title of 2014 Electrical Engineer of the Year at MACE's annual banquet last night! The winner of this award must have made significant contributions to the engineering profession and to the technological and economic development in the Mobile Area, the region, the nation, and the world throughout their engineering career. Their work has added to the body of knowledge, and to the processes that cultivate innovation and invention which, when applied, serve to enhance the quality of life. Brian obtained his P.E. in 2011 and enjoyed a successful career in the shipbuilding industry before the Hargrove Team. Born and raised in Alabama, he holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Alabama. Brian's contributions to the engineering field span 20 years. During that time, he has consulted on projects involving shipbuilding designs that included implementing electric propulsion on supply vessels, one of the earliest uses of electric propulsion in the Navy. In the refining industry, he has consulted on multiple projects with one of the most recent involving the reduction of Benzene waste. The Benzene waste reduction required consultation on a new sampling station designed to reduce Benzene emissions to the environment. The work on this project required detailed studies of the facilities' power distribution system, identifying areas where multiple stations could be supported by the power infrastructure. In addition to being an exemplary electrical engineer, Brian is also an active mentor to junior engineers as well as an adviser on multi-disciplined projects. He currently serves on the Board of Deacons at Crawford Baptist Church. Brian has been married to his wife MaryJo Breland for over 30 years and together they are the proud parents of four children - Sara, Lindsey, Ben and Samantha. Congratulations Brian! We are proud to have such an exceptional Teammate on board!
