From feasibility studies for new products to operations and maintenance support, Hargrove's process team customizes our services to meet your specific business and project needs. Our areas of expertise include process design engineering, conceptual design, project scope development, process simulation, equipment specifications, environmental compliance, process flow diagrams (PFDs)/process and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) development, technology evaluation, equipment optimization, and process start-up.

Hargrove's process team has subject matter expertise across unit operations including reaction, distillation, heat transfer, absorption/adsorption, crystallization, slurry handling, centrifugal separation, degassing, filtration, extrusion, and material handling.

Program development, PHA/HAZOP facilitation, pressure relief device (PRD) sizing and validation, P&ID verification and updating, and procedure writing are just a few of our process safety management capabilities. We recognize our clients' commitments to the safety of their processes, and we team with them routinely on sizing new pressure relief devices (PRDs), validating existing PRD installations, evaluating vent and flare headers, and designing knockout drums for relief systems.

The Hargrove process engineering team has extensive experience in preparing detailed mass and energy balances for both chemical and petroleum refining facilities. Hargrove has partnered with our clients on a number of pilot plant, technology demonstration, and "scale up" projects.

We know that design basis documents are critical in the alignment of the client and engineering firm expectations and requirements, so they are prepared for each key process element and piece of equipment to ensure alignment, meet project goals, and reduce rework. Design capacity, heat duty, operating philosophy, flow rates, temperatures, pressures, stream compositions, utility requirements, physical property data, and materials of construction are representative of what is included.

The process engineering team primarily uses PRO/II™ or Aspen Plus to conduct process simulation studies. Several of our process engineers are trained and skilled in the use of ChemCad, HYSYS, and DYNSIM process simulators. For hydraulic pipe flow modeling, we use AFT Fathom™, AFT Arrow™, SiNet, and PIPE-FLO. For flare header analysis, we are experienced in using Aspen Flare System Analyzer, and Visual Flare. For process safety management, we use PHA-Pro 7, PHA Works, and Hazard Review Leader.
